Berkley Stud Champagne Stakes - NZPC
The NZ Pattern Committee has approved the retention of Listed status for the CJC Champagne Stakes, with the meeting on 3 May being transferred from the turf to artificial surface. The NZPC emphasizes that this in no way sets a precedent and future such moves are unlikely to be approved. On this occasion, there has been an unusual combination of circumstances and extreme rainfall that did not allow the transfer of the race to an alternative turf surface. The NZPC was also mindful of global precedents where such transfers have seen races retain their status.
