Currently the topweight in a non-black type Open Handicap will be allotted 62kg if Rated 92 or greater. From meetings scheduled from 1 January 2024 this threshold will be pushed out to a Rating of 96.

This means that a horse rated 92 will now carry 60kg with a 0.5kg increase for every rating point after that up to 62kg. Horses rated 96-102 will be allotted 62kg. For every rating point above 102 a 0.5kg weight increase applies.

This change has been supported by the Handicapping Group and will be included in a revised Handicapping Policy document in the New Year.
