Balcairn trainers John and Karen Parsons enjoyed a rewarding day at Wingatui on Tuesday, recording a winning double and a couple of placings on the 11-race card.

Miss Starlight was the first to get on the board in the Property Brokers 1200m before Tumuch doubled their tally in the following race, the Grand Casino 1400m, and now a stakes assignment awaits the seven-year-old gelding at Riccarton next week.

Tumuch has shown plenty of ability throughout his career, winning nine races prior to Tuesday’s outing, and despite his two unplaced runs heading into the meeting, his trainers were confident of a bold showing.

Under jockey Akshay Balloo, Tumuch settled in the trail but travelled several lengths off leader Rochello for much of the journey. Turning for home, Balloo worked his charge off the fence and found clear running room three wide where he showed a good turn of foot and quickly bounded to the lead before drawing away to score by 1-3/4 lengths.

Karen Parsons was delighted with the win and she was full of praise for Balloo’s ride.

“We thought he would win, but he had to do it, and it was a really good ride by Akshay,” she said.

Tumuch’s return to form has been timed to perfection, with the son of Satono Aladdin set to contest the Gr.3 TAB Mile (1600m) at Riccarton next week.
