Vale Group One winner Wyndspelle
Group One-winning stallion Wyndspelle has died following a freak accident at Victoria’s Wyndholm Park Stud.
Purchased by bloodstock agent Phill Cataldo out of Hallmark Stud’s 2015 New Zealand Bloodstock Select Yearling Sale draft for $75,000, Wyndspelle was syndicated and raced by Jen Campin, and was entrusted to the care of Otaki trainers Johno Benner and Hollie Wynyard.
The son of Iffraaj won four of his 40 starts for the former training partnership, including the Gr.1 Captain Cook Stakes (1600m) and Gr.2 Waikato Guineas (2000m), and was Group One placed on seven occasions.
Following his retirement from racing, he commenced his stallion career at Grangewilliams Stud in South Taranaki before heading across the Tasman where he stood at Cornwall Park Stud and Wyndholm Park Stud.
Wyndholm Park Stud principal Kim McKellar reported the son of Iffraaj had succumbed to injuries he sustained after taking fright from a kangaroo.
“He was a gentleman of a horse,” Campin said. “Wyndspelle was more than a racehorse and stallion to me, he represented four decades in this industry. His loss for me is profound."
