Trentham meeting a racing fan’s perfect Christmas

RACE Trentham will be the gift that keeps on giving this Saturday, with a stacked meeting of Group races to celebrate their LawnMaster Christmas at the Races.

It's been a busy few weeks at the Upper Hutt course, having staged a successful TAB Mufhasa Classic meeting just over a fortnight ago, followed by Sunday’s Blue Star Christmas Cup Meeting, and a quick turnaround for Saturday’s raceday, offering just as much quality, with the Gr.2 Bramco Granite and Marble Manawatu Challenge Stakes WFA (1400m) assembling a sterling field.

The third and fourth placegetters in the Gr.1 TAB Mufhasa Classic, Perfect Scenario and Puntura, are both back chasing the feature crown, while class mares Town Cryer, Lux Libertas and Marotiri Molly can stamp their authority over the 1400m distance.

Earlier in the day, the rising stars of the racing scene will have their first shot at Group success in the Gr.2 Happy Hire Wakefield Challenge Stakes (1100m), with half-a-dozen juveniles accepting into the field. Unbeaten in the South Island, Cool Aza Rene travels to Trentham to contest his Te Akau stablemate Marokopa Falls, who was an outstanding winner at the meeting two weeks ago. Snapping at their heels will be fellow Southerner Miss Ziggy, while Landlock comes in fresh with race experience under his belt.

The Gr.3 LawnMaster Eulogy Stakes (1600m) is often an early stepping stone for next year’s $1 million New Zealand Oaks (Gr.1, 2400m), and a sharp field of three-year-old fillies will take their place. Macaluso resumed with a bold statement on TAB Mufhasa Classic Day, while Group Three-performer Island Life and Taranaki visitors Leica Lucy and Librero are key runners to follow, if not on Saturday, then into the future over ground.

Stakes action will wrap up with the Gr.3 Humphries Construction Manawatu Cup (2300m), a race that has attracted a full field including Sagunto, who is on a hattrick in the staying feature after taking out the 2022 and 2023 editions. A number of Central Districts talents are in the mix, including Whangaehu, The Underbelly and Islington Lass, while Cheval De Foudre was a flashing light over a mile last Sunday.

If this sounds like Christmas to you, head to Trentham on Saturday, where free admission is available! For those looking to upgrade their experience, the Members Lounge Pass ($30pp), Ultimate Members Lounge Pass ($80pp) and the Desert Gold Restaurant ($120pp) offer a variety of hospitality options, right up to a buffet lunch, beverages and betting vouchers.

Celebrate the final weekend before the big day in style with RACE!
