Arrowfield Plate bringing the stars to the Bay

Hawke’s Bay produced a stunner on the opening day of the Collier’s Spring Carnival three weeks’ ago, and the stage is set for another afternoon of Group One action this Saturday with the Arrowfield Stud Plate.

Quality mare Grail Seeker stole the show in the Gr.1 Tarzino Trophy (1400m) upsetting the favoured runners, and while she won’t be back to chase the feature mile, plenty of talent will make their way to Hastings in search of an elite-level crown.

Among the horses contesting the Gr.1 Arrowfield Stud Plate (1600m) could be last year’s victor Mustang Valley, Group One winners El Vencedor, Skew Wiff and Puntura, as well as proven mile performers Malt Time, Faraglioni and Town Cryer.

On an exciting undercard, the Gr.2 AHD – Animal Health Direct Hawke’s Bay Guineas (1400m) poses a thrilling contest between some of the stars of the opener, including Listed El Roca – Sir Colin Meads Trophy (1200m) winner Poetic Champion and runner-up Savaglee. The fillies’ charge will be headed by Group One performers Archaic Smile and Captured By Love, while recent Group Three winner So Naive poses a big threat.

In between races, the future stars of our industry will take their place in the LOVERACING.NZ Pony Scurry Finals, bringing together the young speedsters that have taken out heats across the country in recent months.

Hospitality is a key figure in the carnival and this race-day will be no different, with the Dundeel Premium Package ($180pp) granting access to the premier hospitality area in the Outdoor Garden Bar Marquee. This idyllic spot has everything a racegoer needs, with a buffet BBQ Gourmet lunch, an all-inclusive drinks package, private betting facilities and live entertainment provided.

For those wanting a further view of the picturesque Hastings racecourse, Members Grandstand Passes are available for just $30pp, with the Desert Gold Lounge and Sasanof Lounge included.
