New Plymouth will stage their Xtreme Raceday this Saturday, 14th of September, and the feature spring card will reflect the name, with a day of extreme distances, both short and long.

For the stayers, the NZB Airfreight Road To The Jericho (3210m) is a sought after contest, offering an amazing opportunity for the winner to compete in Australia’s longest flat race, the Jericho Cup (4600m).

Last year’s winner Nassak Diamond, trained by Shaune Ritchie and Colm Murray, went on to take out the iconic feature at Warrnambool in December, and stayers from across the country including southerner Astradeel will assemble at New Plymouth seeking a tilt at the race.

Elsewhere on the eight-race card, two competitive open handicaps over 1800m and 1400m will feature some serious spring talent, with dual Group One winner Mustang Valley returning on her way to a possible Gr.1 Arrowfield Stud Plate (1600m) appearance.

The same could be said for local headliners One Bold Cat and Hi Yo Sass Bomb, who both picked up Group Three crowns in the 2023/24 season.

In the Brandlab Open (1800m), Justaskme and Aljay sit atop of the book with apprentice claims assisting their chances, while Waikato visitor Diamond Jak has also been in sterling form.

The future stars of our jockey ranks will have their chance in the spotlight with the ever-growing LOVERACING.NZ Pony Scurry Series taking place after Race 2, while the ever-popular Pet Essentials New Plymouth Jack Russell Sprint will be one to watch after Race 7.

To enjoy a fantastic afternoon at New Plymouth Raceway, General Admission is just $5, with those under 18 welcomed for free. The club is offering limited tickets ‘Member for the Day’ passes to the La Mer lounge for $25pp.

Gates will be open from 11:30am.
