NZTR Suspend Licences of Individuals Charged with Animal Mistreatment
New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing (NZTR) have reviewed the circumstances around charges the Racing Integrity Board (RIB) have brought against two licence holders in Waikato region. The charges relate to serious racing offences for inflicting undue suffering on a horse and additional charges relating to animal welfare.
Under the Rules of Racing, NZTR have suspended the licences of both individuals charged pending the outcome of the Adjudicative Committee judicial process in the coming months.
NZTR is working with the RIB to ensure the wellbeing and welfare of the horses on the property concerned. NZTR have also offered and provided welfare services to all individuals involved.
“New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing thoroughly condemn the mistreatment of horses and are committed to the welfare of the horse and maintaining the highest welfare standards” Bruce Sharrock, Chief Executive.
“NZTR is working alongside the Racing Integrity Board (RIB) as they work through this process. Until the Adjudicative Committee process is complete, we cannot comment further.”
