Plenty of upside to Kiwi-bred galloper
New Zealand-bred gelding has conquered all before him this spring and jockey Craig Williams has a warning for his rivals, believing the son of Bullbars is only going to improve.
The six-year-old gelding has won all three of his starts this preparation, including the Gr.2 PB Lawrence Stakes (1400m) first-up, the Gr.1 Memsie Stakes (1400m), and last Saturday he doubled his elite-level tally this spring when victorious in the Gr.1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) at Flemington.
Williams has been impressed with the way the Ben, Will and JD Hayes-trained runner has performed, but believes there is still plenty of improvement yet to come from the exciting galloper.
“He (Mr Brightside) is so exciting because what I felt on Saturday, I still think he has improvement to come in his looks department, in his coat,” Williams told Racing.com.
"I think his coat can be a little bit finer coming into the warmer weather, if we get it, in Melbourne and even his attitude in the gates, he actually was a little bit cranky for him this preparation, so I know when he's right on song, he covers all of those bases.
"It's pretty scary for his opposition but it's pretty exciting for the Mr Brightside camp."
