Former Kiwi galloper Not Usual Glorious added to his collection of Country Cup wins when striding to victory in the A$175,000 Swan Hill Cup (1600m) on Sunday.

Jockey Beau Mertens had the gelding right on speed throughout the running behind pacemaker and second favourite Keats, before moving to the lead at the 600m and fought off challengers down the straight, relishing in the soft ground.

The six-year-old son of Fiorente is trained by Morphettville conditioner and part-owner Travis Doudle, who sourced him out of New Zealand after Not Usual Glorious claimed three wins from nine starts for former trainer Shane Crawford.

Following the victory, Doudle described Not Usual Glorious as a trainer’s dream.

“He’s just so tough and honest and travelling doesn’t bother him one iota,” Doudle told Racing.com.

“To come back from a Warrnambool Cup – he got beat but he ran well in second.

“To freshen-up to win this, it’s a real credit to the horse. He’s just so versatile.”

Not Usual Glorious earned the title of the “Country Cup’s King” by commentators, as the Swan Hill feature adds to his victories in the Terang Cup (2150m), Benalla Cup (1406m) and Apsley Cup (2000m), bringing his stakes earnings to more than A$600,000.
