A message from Hawke's Bay Racing Inc.
Hawke’s Bay Racing Inc. would like to issue an industry apology following the abandonment of its Fruitfed Supplies Raceday on 25 May after Race 1.
The Club has been working closely with New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing (NZTR) and the New Zealand Sports Turf Institute (NZSTI) to understand the condition of the track at Hastings Racecourse and the circumstances that caused the slip during Race 1 of the meeting.
Following the raceday, the Club’s Track Manager verti-drained the track and further testing was completed this morning with an NZSTI representative who will provide a full report, it will continue to verti-drain the surface again today.
With this work already underway, Hawke’s Bay Racing Inc. and NZTR have made the decision to continue with the rescheduled raceday on Tuesday 30 May. The rail has been moved in to the ‘true’ position and a number of horses will be galloped on the track on Sunday ridden by a senior rider.
The Club acknowledges the frustration of those that travelled from afar to come to Hastings Racecourse for the meeting and would like to reassure trainers and owners that the Club with the support of NZTR will ensure that any required work is completed to avoid a repeat of the situation.
All horses accepted that did not race on 25 May will receive compensation as per the NZTR Guidelines.
The Club would like to thank people for their support and is looking forward to hosting the raceday on Tuesday 30 May.
