Race 1 – Graham’s Painters 1200 3yo SW&P
Key Runners
#1 INTENT
#2 TIMES UP
#3 SANS DOUTE
Summary
A small field of 3yo’s to kick proceedings off at Trentham and expecting the early speed to come from #1 INTENT, as well as #4 MAKETAWA MISS trying to hold the fence from barrier one. The betting is dominated early by #3 SANS DOUTE, who is looking to go back-to-back after winning impressively on Legends Day at Te Rapa.
Betting Strategy
Back (Win) - #3 SANS DOUTE
Her three runs this preparation have all been full of merit, winning two of them very impressively. The key to this filly is sticking left-handed, which saw her bounce back to her best when winning last start. She maps to land an economical trailing spot behind the leaders, which should see her have every opportunity to pounce down the Trentham straight. Her past two performances rate well above what this field has shown to date, expecting she would have to regress from those efforts to be troubled by this field.
Race 7 – Fusion Electrical 1600 Open Handicap
Key Runners
#1 BRANDO
#2 LIGHTNING JACK
#6 KELLY COE
Summary
A small, but quality field of open class horses stepping out over the mile. The speed in the race will likely come from #5 BULLY BOY & #7 LOVE FOR ALL, expecting these two to be able to dictate and set a moderate tempo. The market is headed by last start winners, #1 BRANDO & #6 KELLY COE, as well as G1 Harcourts Thorndon Mile placegetter, #2 LIGHTNING JACK.
Betting Strategy
Back (Win) - #6 KELLY COE
She comes into this on the fresher side having not been sighted since her last start victory six weeks ago. In the interim, she has trialled impressively, as well as recording a closing 600m in 34.5s in trackwork earlier this week. Her last start win over the mile, against R75 company, was 0.43 seconds faster than the G1 Thorndon Mile earlier in the day, on a track that deteriorated as the day went on. She gets in with 52kg after the claim and expecting her to be hard to roll with even luck.
