Trainer Tony Pike is dreaming of a bright future with Roederer after he broke through for his maiden win at Arawa Park on Thursday.

The three-year-old gelding had already shown plenty of potential on the track, finishing runner-up in his first two outings before sixth at Te Rapa last start.

Pike has been pleased with Roederer’s progress and wasn’t surprised by his victory in the Sweeney Townsend Insurance Brokers 1560.

“He is a promising horse in the making. He is still a little immature, both physically and mentally, but he is going to develop into a very nice middle-distance horse next season,” Pike said.

“He did a bit wrong at Te Rapa (last start) but it was still a good run. He is a horse for the future. We will probably put him aside now, look after him.

“He is a horse that could possibly be running in a few nice Cups races as a four and five-year-old.”

Later on the card stablemate Patton posted a runner-up result in the MacMillan Accountants 1400.

“He is a really honest horse,” Pike said. “He is not very big but he tries hard and hopefully he can get another win shortly.”
