TOBIAS

Had no luck when shooting for back-to-back wins. Slow start put him on the back foot and then unable to find clear running until the race was all but over. Big effort for third, definitely one to follow.

Race 4 Wingatui, February 4

SO NATURAL

Few more honest on the southern circuit. Beaten three lengths into second but would have finished closer and even won but for a chequered run. Badly hampered by riderless horse but still tried his best.

Race 8 Tauranga, February 5

THATSALLSHEWROTE

Had to go back from outside but got an economical run through to be in a challenging position on the turn. Didn’t help herself by laying out final 200m but still learning and well worth sticking with.

Race 7 Tauherenikau, February 6

TAMAHINE

Had the job ahead of her after being checked back to the rear early. Had to come right round the big field and charged home to just miss.
