Launch of The Grand Tour Leaderboard
At the start of this season NZTR, with support of our major Clubs, launched The Grand Tour Racing Festival. This national campaign unifies New Zealand’s top 20 premier racing events across Hawke’s Bay, Auckland, Christchurch, Wellington, Manawatu and Waikato to promote and grow our sport.
We are just over halfway through the inaugural “Tour” with the focus so far on awareness and attracting a new demographic to these days. This has been supported by bold creative across our media and on-course executions.
This week we launch a new initiative for the second half of this season’s campaign. This leaderboard concept aims to create additional interest across the last eight days of the Tour, with the next stop at Trentham as we celebrate Wellington Cup Week.
There will be five categories across Jockeys, Trainers and Horse. As well as a leaderboard for wins, there will also be categories for Apprentice and Strike Rate for Jockeys and Trainers respectively. For our equine athletes a points system is in place with one point for a win and an extra point for a Group 1 victory.
We have run the numbers after 12 days with some interesting results. The Jockey wins leaderboard is competitive with a three-way tie at the top with Craig Grylls, Michael McNab and Warren Kennedy on 11 wins, while the winning Trainer looks to be sealed up with Mark Walker on 14 wins. We hope to build on this next season and confident that the TAB can support us with a fixed odds-market to drive extra interest.
