Home treble for Patterson
New Plymouth trainer Robbie Patterson left his home track a happy man on Thursday after recording a winning treble.
“It was brilliant and could have even been four with a bit of luck. The team is really going well,” Patterson said.
His winning account was opened by Times Up in the Nulook Aluminium Maiden 3YO (1100m) and stakes targets are beckoning the promising son of Time Test after his debut victory.
“He is a lovely horse who is currently under offer to Australia at the moment,” Patterson said.
“He would be a black-type horse in New Zealand, but whether he stays or not I am not too sure, but he is exciting.
“If he stays, I would have to look at the Wellington Guineas (Gr.2, 1400m) and give him a run in-between.”
Later on the card, Margherita Veloce recorded the stable’s second victory of the meeting in the NZB Insurance Pearl Series Race (1400m).
“She has fought a few issues with her knees and fetlocks over time and she is just starting to harden off now. By the way she won, I think she can go on with it now,” Patterson said.
The stable’s treble was completed by One Bold Cat who recorded his third win from five starts in the Carters Your Building Partner 1800.
“He is a lovely, relaxed horse,” Patterson said. “Now that he is starting to step up over a trip he is quite exciting.
“There is an 1800m over Christmas time at home, so he can go to that. He could end up a nice little Cups horse eventually.”
Patterson was also pleased to secure placings with The Hottie and Maolla Miss.
“The Hottie was really good as it has been a long time between races and I have had a lot of problems with her,” he said.
“She is a good galloper and she was strong late. Getting up to a mile, she will be winning a race pretty quick I would say.
“It was a bit uncharacteristic of Maolla Miss to be jumping and leading, but she just got nabbed on the line.
“She is a horse that will be better with time and we should be able to get a win or two out of her as well."
