News In Brief
Chung heading south
First-year Apprentice jockey Jim Chung is heading south to add to the somewhat diminished South Island riding ranks over the next month, with a number of senior riders either on holiday or side-lined by injury.
Apprenticed to Waikato trainers Tim and Margaret Carter, Chung rode his first winner for the Cambridge trainers aboard Show Courage at Rotorua in April.
“Margaret and I are sending Jim Chung on loan to the Pitman Stable for an initial period of one month,” Tim Carter said.
“A number of South Island Jockeys are currently unavailable for one reason or another so Jim will be a welcome addition to the riding ranks.
“Jim will be taking rides at Ashburton on Thursday, Te Rapa next Saturday then he will link with the Pitman Stable.”
Entries Open for NZB Ready to Run Sale
Entries for New Zealand Bloodstock’s 2022 Ready to Run Sale of Two-Year-Olds are now open, with the Sale set to be held at the Karaka Sales Centre on 16 and 17 November. This year’s Breeze Ups will take place on Monday 3 and Tuesday 4 October at Te Rapa.
NZB’s Ready to Run Sale is renowned for being the leading horses in training sale globally. The Sale continues to be held in the highest regard by agents, trainers and buyers and is a trusted source for many global industry participants.
NZB’s 2021 Ready to Run Sale average of $121,580 was a sale record and a 28% increase on the 2020 edition, defying the odds of exceptional circumstances due to COVID-19 restrictions. Despite hosting a completely virtual sale, NZB’s turnover of more than $20 million was 17% more than both Australian competitor sales' gross combined.
