In this edition of 'Trainer Tuesday' we highlight Matamata-based Darryn Weatherley, who has lived and breathed racing through his family connection and has shown great dedication to the industry as both a jockey and trainer.

Darryn was a second-generation jockey with six stakes winners during an 18-year career in the saddle. He followed in the footsteps of his father Dan Weatherley who was also a successful jockey. Darryn's son Sam is continuing the family tradition in the saddle and has certainly made a name for himself with 328 career wins.

Following on from his career as a jockey, Darryn began training in 2013 and enjoyed a dream introduction to the ranks when he saddled La Vitesse to win his maiden race. He has produced 29 career wins, with 25 of those wins coming with son Sam riding.

The father-and-son team also combined for a piece of history when they won the first race on the Cambridge Jockey Club's newly-developed polytrack courtesy of Champagne Princess.

Darryn's first stakes winner came on New Year's Day when Mali Ston produced a performance that had to be seen to be believed when he weaved through traffic to take out the Gr.2 Rich Hill Mile.
