NZTR 2021 Club Awards announced

The NZTR Board has announced the winners and runners-up in the 2021 NZTR Club Awards.

The inaugural awards were presented prior to the 2020 NZTR AGM, however due to the 2021 AGM being held as a virtual event the announcement of the 2021 award winners was delayed until now.

In addition to the three club categories the Board added a special award, the Chairman’s Special Contribution Award.  This was presented to the Auckland Racing Club and Counties Racing Club for the significant work they undertook, working together to create Auckland Thoroughbred Racing (ATR).

The 2021 Award winners are:

2021 Club of the Year – Racing Tauranga; runner-up Auckland Racing Club

2021 Event of the Year – CJC New Zealand Cup carnival; runner-up ARC Boxing Day meeting

2021 Community Club of the Year – Waverley RC; runner-up Taupo RC

Despite the impacts of Covid on several race days the clubs recognised in the 2021 awards were able to improve on their sponsorship returns, race day profits and community involvement in their race days.

The Canterbury Jockey Club backed-up its Event of the Year win in the inaugural awards to take this out again, thanks to increases across the board from the previous season.  The significance of the event spreads beyond Christchurch with figures showing it attracts 4000 visitors from the provinces.

The presentation of the awards will be made at a time agreed with the respective clubs once covid restrictions are relaxed.
