New Zealand Racing Legends - Tulloch
30 December 2021
Tulloch, who became a national hero on both sides of the Tasman foaled at Trelawney Stud in 1954 and went on to earn over £100,000. Despite his small stature, Tulloch or "Little Joe" as he was affectionately known only ran unplaced once from his 53 starts and as a three-year-old he was almost invincible, winning 14 races, often in record time. Dreams were shattered in 1958 where he was struck down by a mysterious stomach virus which kept him off the racing scene for two years to win on debut in the VRC Queens Plate as a 5-year old. Despite his brush with death, Tulloch would go on to win a further 14 races including the AJC Queen Elizabeth Stakes, Brisbane Cup and the WS Cox Plate.
