1983 Melbourne Cup - Kiwi

29 October 2021
Kiwi's remarkable dash to victory in the 1983 Melbourne Cup will always be remembered as one of the greatest triumphs within the race's long standing history. Purchased as a yearling for just $1000 by sheep farmer Snow Lupton and his wife Ann, with a training regime which often involved rounding up stock on their Waverley farm. From humble beginnings, the 'Pride of Waverley' went on to win the Egmont Cup, Wellington Cup and made his debut on Australian soil to conquer the Melbourne Cup.
