OVERVIEW – THIS WEEKEND

Best on Breeding (Tavistock)

KAPALUA SUNSET (ETHEREAL STAKES)

Lightly raced daughter of New Zealand sire Tavistock from Full Of Spirit.  This filly has shown in just two starts plenty of staying promise in fact is high up on betting markets to win the VRC Oaks.  Looks the one to beat and will also be running on over the concluding stages.

TIZ MAGIC (THREE YEAR OLD CLASSIC)

Another lightly raced Kiwi bred mare who is by Tavistock from the Irish mare, Cinnadream.  Looked very good at second race start at Flemington behind El Patroness and will relish the extra 200 metres here.

GUNSTOCK (THREE YEAR OLD CLASSIC)

Another son of the former top stallion Tavistock who is out of a tough staying mare by Zabeel.  Looked good at Flemington flashing home to be third and is another who will be at home at the 2,000 metres.

YOUNG WERTHER (CAULFIELD CUP)

Looked very good first up at Flemington when just two lengths behind Floating Artist and then caught the eye with a late closing placing in the Turnbull Stakes behind Caulfield Cup favourite, Incentivise.  This lightly raced four year old is well in the market and deservedly so.

Caulfield – Saturday

JUSTACANTA (MOONGA STAKES)

Former New Zealand sprinter who burst through an opening in the closing stages of his win at Flemington at the start of this month.   Scratched from last Saturday because of the hardness of the track and looks well placed to make it two in a row.

KAHMA LASS (TRISTARC STAKES)

This lighted raced mare sprang back into form after struggling efforts at Randwick and Caulfield.  Starting at good odds this daughter of Darci Brahma, is up sharply in weight but this company is not beyond her.

EXPLOSIVE JACK (CAULFIELD CUP)

Multiple Derby winner when last in work and showed at Flemington behind Incentivise that he was ready to win.  Sure to be in the finish.

THE CHOSEN ONE (CAULFIELD CUP)

Looks like he is nearing his peak with a terrific effort at Caufield behind top line stayer Delphi.  He’s tough, he’s won at this track and distance.

OCEAN BILLY (CAULFIELD CUP)

Comes to Australia with an incredible strike rate of seven wins from just 24 starts.  He’s a winner at this distance and will be kept very safe in the betting.

SHE’S IDEEL (CAULFIELD CUP)

Better than her last start defeat in Sydney against group one company and looked a lot better before that at Randwick when successful in the Kingston Town Stakes.  Sure to be a threat.

CHARMS STAR (CAULFIELD CUP)

This former Kiwi began her Australian preparation during the winter carnival in Brisbane.  She was placed in the Queensland Oaks and she was making late ground in the Metropolitan Handicap at Randwick in Sydney last time.  Respect as she is a group placed stayer.

QUICK THINKER (CAULFIELD CUP)

Was beaten in a fast run Metropolitan last start after finishing runner up in the Newcastle Cup two back. Runs his best races on wet tracks so is one that's chances improve with the forecast rain.

Randwick – Saturday

KISS THE BRIDE (THE STAR MILE)

Extremely well bred New Zealand galloper who looked good at Randwick two weeks ago and this son of Savabeel could well be in the finish.

ALL HALO’S EVE (THE STAR MILE)

Has struggled a touch in recent starts but on its best form could be hard to beat here.

HIGH SUPREMACY (THE STAR MILE)

Racing with blinkers for the first time here which is often a telling gear change.  He’s by Savabeel and his effort in the Silver Eagle Stakes was very good.

SATIN RUBY (HIGHWAY HANDICAP)

Raced in New Zealand during its early career.  Has struggled a touch in recent starts but if the daughter of El Roca can find form this will suit.

MASCHERATA (ALLEN QUALITY)

Well bred filly out of Fancy Dress who is also a daughter of Savabeel and she came from near last at Hawksbury last start to be placed.  One of the chances.

LOST AND RUNNING (EVEREST STAKES)

New Zealand born sprinter who fought on solidly in the Premier Cup at Randwick last start.  Has worked well since in an extraordinarily tough event.

LIONS ROAR (CRAVEN PLATE)

Bred in New Zealand but has done all its racing in Australia and be mindful he has been placed in the Australian Turf Club Derby last year behind major Caulfield Cup contenders Explosive Jack and Young Werther.  Could threaten at odds.

BARGAIN (CRAVEN PLATE)

By former Cox Plate winner Ocean Park from a high class mare Shopaholic.  Has been placed at group one and now getting to its favourite journey.

SAVVY VALENTINO (SAINT LEGER STAKES)

Another strong stayer by Savabeel who returned to form with a win at big odds at Randwick last time and if he can recapture that form will be highly competitive here.

PERFECT DEAL (SAINT LEGER STAKES)

Noted stayer by Done Deal from well bred mare Our Kitty.  Battled away at his past two in Queensland.  Consider for a place.

HIGH EMOCEAN (SAINT LEGER STAKES)

Born in New Zealand by Ocean Park from High Joy.  This mare has slowly gone through the grades starting in a country maiden and building up to listed company.  Could threaten at odds.
