NZTR COVID-19 Racing Update
As at Tuesday 24 August 3:30pm
As mentioned in previous updates, New Zealand racing is at this stage set to resume on Saturday 28 August.
On Saturday, the scheduled Te Rapa and Awapuni race meetings will take place, and on Sunday, the Matamata race meeting will take place. Additionally, the race meeting initially scheduled for Ashburton on Thursday 26 August will now take place on Saturday 28 August.
Subject to the weekend racing taking place, the race meeting initially scheduled for Hawera on Friday 27 August will now take place on Tuesday 31 August.
The other racing dates will remain as planned next week.
Subject to the weekend racing taking place, there will also be trials at Cambridge on Tuesday 31 August. Trials will also take place at a Central Districts venue TBC on Thursday 2 September.
After a formal request from the New Zealand Jockeys’ Association, it has been agreed by NZTR to raise all weights by 1kg in flat races (including highweights) from the resumption of racing (Saturday 28 August) up to and including the day prior to the running of the first Premier meeting at Hawke’s Bay. This decision was made after consultation with the New Zealand Trainers’ Association and a representation of racing clubs.
Once again, we strongly encourage all racing participants to get vaccinated if possible, for the protection of both themselves and the rest of the industry.
Everyone is also again reminded that there are various Covid-19 financial support schemes available. For further information on these, you can head to: https://www.business.govt.nz/covid-19/financial-support-for-businesses/
