Backing the future
TRAVELLING LIGHT (7-5-1-1 )
Group 1 Valachi Downs Foxbridge Plate 1200m and Tarzino Trophy 1400m WFA 19 September 2020
Rarely do you see such explosive sprinting ability from any horse, let alone a 3yo filly. Some of her closing 600 metres sectionals indicate that brilliance: 32.80,34.22 and 33.86 and that is from just seven starts. They found out she is best ridden with a sit after leading and being run down in the 1000 Guineas. At both of her next two runs she was ridden quieter and was a dominant winner in the Group 1 Levin Classic. Since her break she has trialled up twice and after settling off the leaders, found the line under her own steam to run third and second. With her tactical speed, she should be able to overcome most draws and with her ability to relax now, along with her extra strength, she will be a very hard mare to beat this Saturday then go on to the Tarzino even fitter.
SUPERA ( 18-8-3-2 )
Group 1 Livamol $250,000 2040m WFA 17 October 2020
She may be a real handful to work with but she more than makes up for it on the track! With eight wins ranging from 1200 metres to 2000 metres she is a very versatile mare. Dead or better tracks are her preference but she has won on a 1.25.3 1400m track at Matamata. Some of her closing 600m sectionals are impressive: 32.68, 34.50, 33,82, 33.10, and 33.42. After a good break she trialled up at Taupo on 12 August on an unfavoured Slow 7 track, but settled handy, which was unusual for her, but was still able to show that powerful stride of hers just going down to the top mare Avantage.
Co-trainer Ken Kelso told us, " She will be trialling at Te Teko this Thursday 3 September then going straight into the Tarzino. She goes well fresh and 1400m suits her better than the 1200m of the Foxbridge ( $12 to win the Tarzino). She's really improved since her second at Taupo ( Trials). The plan is to start in all three Group 1s at Hastings with the Livamol being the target."
With Avantage, Melody Belle and maybe one or two others with queries about them starting in the Livamol, the current $10 to win this race is good value now.
