We caught up with leading jumps jockey Aaron Kuru, here's what we learnt in 60 seconds...
 
What made you want to pursue a career in racing?
 
It was just a job before school, then quickly turned into a career once I finished school. 
 
What do you love most about racing?
 
Being a part of a stable and it’s success throughout the season. 
 
What has been a career highlight for you?
 
Winning the Hawke’s Bay double and Grand National in Australia.
 
Do you have a favourite horse you’ve ridden?
 
Jimmy Choux.
 
Do you have a favourite jockey?
 
Jonathan Riddell. I haven’t met too many jockeys that have won both Group One races and the Grand National Steeplechase. 
 
Favourite New Zealand track?
 
Hastings and Ellerslie.
 
If you weren’t in racing, what would your job be?
 
Not sure.
 
When you're not riding, what do you spend your time doing? 
 
If I’m not playing softball, I like to go long boarding and mountain biking. Also doing Manus at the river. 
 
If you could switch lives with someone for the day, who would it be? 
 
Javier Báez. He plays baseball for the Chicago Cubs.
 
If you could invite three people to dinner, living or dead, who would you invite?
 
Joe Rogan, Kevin Hart and Javier Báez. 
 
Favourite TV show? 
 
Police 10/7 is always good. 
 
Favourite food?
 
Anything chicken. 
 
What’s one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
 
I grow a Ginger beard.

What did you learn while riding overseas? 
 
Not to travel with Shaun Phelan and Andrew Campbell.
