In light of these unprecedented times the New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association has made the decision to extend the early bird registration for the NZB Insurance Pearl Series until May 31.

“People have more important things to worry about at the moment, than registering their fillies for the Pearl Series,” NZTBA chief exectuive Justine Sclater said.

“So we have decided not to close early bird registrations on March 31 as usual.

“This will enable the yearlings catalogued at the now postponed South Island Sale and those earmarked for the cancelled May Sale to still be eligible if they are able to be sold elsewhere or retained by their vendors.

“Registration is currently underway for all fillies born in the Southern Hemisphere in 2018.

“It is a very popular scheme and when we are racing again next season and into the future it would be a shame if a whole bunch of fillies and mares have missed out.”

The NZB Insurance Pearl Series has been running for seven years and millions of dollars have been paid out to filly owners, trainers and nominators. This season alone there have been 21 bonus winners.

“Our office is currently closed,” Sclater said. “Both Corrina Holmes and I are working from home,  and entries can be done online now and up to May 31.

“We will continue to assess the situation as it rapidly changes on all fronts daily and we will continue to provide breeders and our members with pertinent information during such a challenging time,” Sclater said.

“Most important is for us all to stay safe and use our common sense.”
