Talented three-year-old filly Terracotta put on the after-burners to come from last and land her first career win at the fifth time of asking at Matamata on Wednesday when taking out the Tirau Veterinary Centre (1200m).

 

The Gerry Harvey-bred and raced daughter of Redwood had been building towards raceday success after finishing second in three of her four previous starts. 

 

“It was really encouraging the way she quickened home and they came home in sub 35 seconds and she has come from last,” Andrew Scott, who trains the filly in partnership with Lance O’Sullivan, said. 

 

“There was a bit of merit to the win and she has been threatening to do that for a while. Hopefully now that she has got the monkey off her back she might crack on through the grades. 

 

“She will appreciate a bit of sting out of the ground over the autumn months and although she has had a bit of a campaign, there is still a bit of her and she will carry on. 

 

Like many of the progeny of Redwood, Terracotta relished being ridden patiently, which both Scott and winning jockey Danielle Johnson said was the key to the filly.
