The Races

What made you want to pursue a career in racing?

After being sent to Malcom Smith I knew that’s all I wanted to do. And of course, my love of horses.

You have enjoyed some great success throughout your career. Which is most special to you?

Your first Group 1 is always special (Wharite Princess in the 2004 New Zealand Oaks). Authentic Paddy is everyone's favourite in the stable so his G1 win was just as special (2017 Zabeel Classic).

What is your favourite raceday in New Zealand?

New Zealand Oaks Day at Trentham.

Who is the quirkiest horse you've trained?

Authentic Paddy. If you don’t keep the work into him he can get away on you very quickly and he ties up as well, so it is a balancing act!

What is the best piece of advice you’ve received?

Worry about what you have and not what you don’t have.

If you could switch lives for someone for a day, who would it be?

Jennifer Aniston.

What TV series are you currently watching?

None at present.

What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?

I was a New Zealand Barrel Racing Champion at the age of 16.
