Jumps jockey Stephan Karnicnik is currently in Waikato Hospital following a two-vehicle collision on Stanley Rd immediately outside the Te Aroha racecourse this morning.

 

Police are still investigating the cause of the accident which saw Stephan Karnicnik and one other person airlifted to Waikato Hospital, both in a serious condition.

At 1.30pm Stephan was described as being serious but stable by the Waikato Hospital Emergency Department, with the extent of his injuries still to be confirmed.

 

NZTR CEO Bernard Saundry advised that Racetrack Support Andrew McKerrow would visit Stephan.

“We are very conscious of the fact that Stephan is far from home and, while the industry itself is wonderful in times like this, providing assistance, we want to ensure Stephan has all the support he needs,” he said.
