Your Guide to Auckland's Million Dollar Party!
The New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Million raceday at Ellerslie Racecourse is truly one of the best racedays on the calendar! High stakes and high energy combine to create an atmosphere like no other. Check out our guide to this spectacular evening of racing…
Dress
It’s a million-dollar raceday - you want to be looking a million bucks! Being a twilight event, the Karaka million creates an unique opportunity for fashionistas to step outside the restrictions of traditional racewear (however the strapless mini should still stay in the wardrobe!) Think racewear combined with cocktail. Look for intricate fabrics and opt for smaller headwear - something as simple as a crown or hair scarf is perfect!
Hospitality
Ellerslie Racecourse provides some of the best racetrack hospitality in the country and Karaka Million night is no exception. Whether you’re wanting to get up close to the on-course action in general admission, or let your hair down with friends in the Garden Party, we promise there’s something for you! The new Cavallo Club will provide racegoers with a taste of Italy trackside - Aperol Spritz or Stella Artois, anyone?
Word to the wise, if you’re yet to secure your tickets, you better get racing - this is a SELL OUT event!
The Karaka Million
The Karaka million is a 1200m race for two year old horses who were purchased at the New Zealand Bloodstock Yearling Sales and is worth (you guessed it) $1million, making it the richest two year old race in the country.
As if one million-dollar race wasn’t enough, as of last year Auckland Racing Club announced a second - the $1,000,000 Karaka Million 3 year old Classic! Again, only horses purchased at the New Zealand Bloodstock Yearling sales are eligible and this race is run over a slightly longer 1600m.
The Karaka Million is set for 26 January and will draw an international crowd from far and wide. This is the party of the summer and one evening you don’t want to miss!
