Winton J.C.

Winton JC and the Winton racecourse have operated successfully since 1875. After the Messara Report / NZ Racing Venue Plan was mandated in 2019 the Winton Jockey Clubs’ new place and purpose in the industry is to be a tenant club at Ascot Park in Invercargill for one race meeting in October. Although disappointed not to be racing on their home track Winton JC knows every licensed race day in the region is vital for the sustainability of the Southland thoroughbred industry. The strong Winton JC committee and members are determined to see the club keep its Central Southland identity, and will keep engaging with local sponsors and supporters. The club continues to support thoroughbred training and the thoroughbred trials / jump-outs being held at the Winton racecourse. Over 100 horses are trained per week in Winton; other activities that take place at the Winton course are 18 harness meetings, the A&P Show and Pony Club. Winton lies in the heart of Southland amidst lush green paddocks and fertile soils. Winton is situated on the main highway between Invercargill and Queenstown and services a greater rural area of 6000 people.
