The Wellington Steeplechase and Wellington Hurdles have been transferred to the Hawke’s Bay meeting at Hastings next Thursday, July 20.
The original fields will stand and will not be re-drawn and no scratching fees will be applied.
This follows the abandonment on Friday morning of the Wellington Racing Club meeting scheduled for Trentham on Saturday, due to surface water effecting significant sections of both the course proper and steeplechase course.
The track was inspected by Club and RIU officials on Friday morning and it was decided that there was no possibility of the surface water subsiding sufficiently to allow the meeting to proceed safely.
The Anuka Smoker Wellington Hurdles, originally scheduled at 3400m, will now be run over 3100m at Hastings but the distance for the Grant Plumbing Wellington Steeplechase will remain about 5500m.
