New Zealand Racecourse Managers Conference




This year the New Zealand Racecourse Managers Conference (NZRMA) will be held in Auckland at the Ellerslie Racecourse from August 23rd – 25th. The Australian Racecourse Managers Association (ARMA) has also agreed to hold a combined conference with us in Auckland this year.  This means we will have over 100 racecourse managers in one room discussing issues facing all racecourses.

In  conjunction with our Australian counterparts we have organised a very thorough and interesting programme. Two of the major issues that will be covered are irrigation and how it affects the performance of racecourses and Health and Safety. There are also field trips to Racecourses and private training establishments to view recent work that has been undertaken on different surfaces.

As you are aware we face more and more issues with our climate and the ability for race meetings to proceed has become an issue. The processes around this will be examined thoroughly at the conference and we will seek to learn more methods that may help prevent abandonments of racedays.

We do actively seek sponsorship for these conferences to drive the costs down and we have been working hard to maintain the same registration fee for this year’s event as the previous years’. The registration fee covers accommodation, breakfast and lunch over the two days of the conference as well as a formal dinner.

We hope your Club has registered your racecourse managers and any other staff you feel will learn from these topics, e.g. your racing manager to the conference. I have no doubt it will be a significant advantage to attendees to glean information from our trans-tasman counterparts which will benefit us all in the long run.

Accommodation is at the IBIS Hotel with the Conference and Trade Zone presentations to be held at Ellerslie Racecourse, just a short walk from the IBIS Hotel.

10.30am to 4.00pm         Seminars/Field Trip viewing local tracks
