Mare to return in autumn

Let Her Rip is on an extended break, but will be back on the stakes trail later next year.

The Rip Van Winkle five-year-old is currently side-lined after bleeding during the Gr.2 Cal Isuzu Stakes (1600m) at Te Rapa last Saturday.

“She’ll have the mandatory three month stand down and hopefully we’ll have another crack at black type in the autumn,” Shaune Ritchie said.

“She’ll be going to stud in the spring and she’s a Group Three winner so any more black type will be great.”

Cup start confirmed

First day Awapuni winner Boxachocolates will back up in Saturday’s Gr.3 Hotel Coachman Manawatu Cup (2100m).

“He looks bright and happy,” trainer Mike Breslin said. “It’s a race I’ve had in the back of my mind for some time.”

Boxacholates made his open class debut last Saturday and was a runaway winner over 2000m.

“We’ve just had to wait for him to strengthen up to try him over ground,” Breslin said. “This time next year we might be looking at the Auckland and Wellington Cups.”
