Quality mares coming home

Lizzie L’Amour will be on a flight home from Australia on Wednesday with her stablemate Bonneval.

Connections of the Zabeel mare had given thought to a start in the Gr.2 Matriarch Stakes (2000m), but have opted against a run in the Flemington event on November 11.

“Nothing has really panned out for her, you just have to move on,” said Andrew Forsman, who trains with Murray Baker. “She’ll have a break and we’ll start again.”

Zabeel summer target

Volkstok’n’barrell has the Gr.1 Zabeel Classic (2000m) at Ellerslie on Boxing Day on his programme.

“We’ve yet to decide what the right lead-up race will be,” said co-trainer Chris Gibbs.

Volkstok’n’barrell has been given a clean bill of health after disappointing when unplaced in the Gr.1 Livamol Classic (2040m) at Hawke’s Bay.

“He’s fine and we just think the trip away got the better of him and he was quite lethargic,” Gibbs said.

Dream race for filly

Stephen Marsh has found the ideal event for the next appearance of his promising filly Power Dream.

“She’ll run on Saturday in the three-year-old event over 1200m at Tauranga,” the Cambridge trainer said. “It’s the perfect race for her at set weights and penalties.

“She’s not quite ready to step up in distance, we’ll give her this one and then probably a run over 1400m.”

Power Dream followed up her debut third behind the subsequent winners Embellish and Ever Loyal at Ruakaka with her maiden success at Tauranga earlier this month.
