SETTLEMENT OF DEFAMATION PROCEEDINGS AND FULL RETRACTION BY LEO MOLLOY
A longstanding High Court defamation case between Greg Purcell, the Chief Executive of New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing, and Leo Molloy, an Auckland trainer, has reached settlement.
A six-figure sum was paid by Mr Molloy as a contribution to the damage his statements have caused to Mr Purcell’s reputation.
Mr Molloy takes this opportunity to state publicly that he was totally wrong in relation to the allegations he made about Mr Purcell on the website Racecafe.
Mr Molloy stated:
“I am fully satisfied as to the honesty and integrity of Mr Purcell. My claims were baseless, including remarks in relation to Mr Purcell’s ownership of horses. Further, my allegations that he embellished or falsified his CV were totally without foundation. “
“I take this opportunity to fully and unreservedly apologise to Mr Purcell, his family and his colleagues, for making these allegations.”
