There are 65 Racing (RC) or Jockey Clubs (JC) with current licenses in New Zealand, many of which have long and rich histories.

Race Clubs are responsible for the staging and management of meetings, either at their home racecourse or in cases where they no longer have one, at a nearby racecourse. Clubs vary in size ranging from small, community and volunteer based organisations which stage racing just once a year to larger more commercial Clubs offering a number of racedays throughout the season as well as non-raceday facilities. There are 52 racecourses in New Zealand, from Ruakaka at Whangarei in the North to Ascot Park at Invercargill in the South.
